Purported Rhysida attack refuted by Peru

Peru's Ministry of Government and Digital Transformation has rejected the assertions of the Rhysida ransomware operation alleging the compromise of its government portal "gob.pe" and the theft of portal files, which could only be resolved with the payment of nearly $472,000 worth of cryptocurrency, The Record reports.

While operations of the Peruvian government portal have not been disrupted over the past week, officials said that the Tax Administration Service in Piura had been compromised in another attack. The intrusion, which occurred in late March, resulted in a two-day service disruption but did not result in any data compromise, according to Piura officials. Such a development comes months after leading Peruvian financial services firm Interbank, formerly known as the International Bank of Peru, disclosed being subjected to a data breach that may have compromised millions of individuals. Meanwhile, Rhysida has been reported to have targeted U.S. local governments, as well as healthcare networks and libraries.
